Music Ministry

Johnson Memorial's Music Ministry provides opportunity for persons of all ages to witness to their faith by worshipping and praising God through music. Our Music Ministry has three primary purposes:
  • To enhance the congregation's worship of God by preparing thoughtfully chosen and carefully prepared music of all styles.
  • To provide persons of all ages the opportunity to increase their musical skills and express their faith through music.
  • To present music that expresses our faith to the Huntington community through sponsorship of special programs by our musicians and by visiting groups.

Sanctuary Choir

Our Sanctuary Choir sings each Sunday from September through June.   Over the years, they have presented a number of major choral works during the Advent and Lenten seasons.  The choir is open to singers from high school age and up.   Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30. If you are interested, contact Rob Wray at 304-525-8116, x 20.
  • The Sanctuary Choir officers are: Becky Warren, President;  Charlie Lewis, Vice President; and  Chyrl Budd, Secretary/Treasurer
  • Section Leaders are: Sue D. Woods, Soprano;  Kay Lewis, Alto; Michael Sidoti, Tenor; and Chuck Gruber, Bass

Music Scholarship Program

Scholarships are made available annually to Marshall University voice majors willing to commit to weekly attendance at Sanctuary Choir rehearsals and Sunday morning service.  Scholarship awards are based upon the recommendation of the Music Director and the approval of the Music Committee.

Kid's Club

Kid's Club provides a balance to Johnson Memorial's Children's Ministry.  Kid's Club meets each Wednesday (following the Cabell County Public School schedule) 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. in the Kid's Club Room on the second floor.  This program is for children in Kindergarten through Fifth grade.  Download the current Kids' Club Schedule here.

The Kid's Club children participate in dynamic learning through age-appropriate activities such as crafts, games, and music that incorporate worship, prayer, and some form of Bible study.  Kid's Club provides an opportunity for girls and boys to grow mentally, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

Adult Bell Choir

The "JM Ringers" perform on a set of 61 Handbell and 49 Choir Chimes.  They have participated in major ringing festivals in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia.  They perform during worship 8 to 10 times each season and also present  special programs within the church and community.  Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm.
